So what is he waiting for? We aren't sure, but he seems perfectly content to stay put, despite the fact that this date is circled in blue ink on the calendar and we have been counting down to it for months now. Our doctor's appointment today revealed that little has changed since last week, I am still dilated just 1 to 2 centimeters. Ug.
Many doctors will let their patients go two weeks overdue before inducing. Our doctor, however, feels that the benefits of baby being in the womb do not outweigh the risks incurred after the baby is one week overdue (such as the aging placenta not being able to adequately provide oxygen & nutrients). So he recommends induction at one week past the due date. That would be next Friday for us, but since he is on call next Thursday, we are scheduled to be induced then instead.
We are so excited and so ready for this baby to arrive! If he had recommended induction this afternoon, I would have been stoked. So at least now we have a firm end date in sight. If baby doesn't arrive on his own before then, we will be reporting to Labor and Delivery on the morning of Thursday, April 23 to evict him from his warm comfy home. We'll be sure to keep this site updated in case he decides to make an appearance before then!
